Illustrated Etymology is just that - a collection of visual correlatives to English word history. These illustrations are an exploration, evolution and celebration of the history and meaning of words and language. Above is my submission. The word "whisky," literally "water of life," from Old Irish uisce "water" + bethu "life."




Silver Screen Society honors the many stories told through the world of cinema by bringing each month a new film and a continuous stream of creatives that carry with them their own unique interpretations and ideas.

The movie that was selected was Get Carter. When researching Get Carter I came across a couple of articles that talked more about the clothing than the movie. GQ listed it as one of the 25 most stylish law-breakers in movies. I took a different approach than the sex or violence and focused on the clothes. Esquire always highlights an actor's style so I thought it was only fitting to do a layout for "getting Carter's style". Another aspect for such a controversial movie at that time.
